  • Riding a bike in Colombia is an adventure on two wheels. You’ll experience high altitude climbing, stunning vistas and gravel backroads that will blow your mind. The routes are made up of mixed terrain, with a good blend of road and gravel.

Daily ride duration will vary from about 20-60+ miles per day, with shorter and longer optional rides available as needed on each day’s route. La Cicla provides shuttle options on some rides to reduce the duration.

Each ride will have multiple ride leaders and can break up into multiple groups if needed to accommodate varying ability levels.

Riding in Colombia is no easy undertaking! Due to the altitude and demanding nature of the terrain, you must come prepared. We ask that you train for your tour and make sure you’re ready for some big days on the bike before arriving.

You are required to have a GPS head unit with each day’s route loaded prior to the trip. This is for your own safety.

  • Make no mistake, the terrain in Colombia is rugged and challenging.

We highly recommend a gravel or cyclocross bike with disc brakes and tubeless tires at least 40-45mm in width. You’ll see your fair share of spicy gravel roads, but even the centuries-old paved and cobblestone roads in Colombia are much more comfortable on higher-volume tires.

Hardtail mountain bikes are welcome too and past year’s guests have enjoyed the additional cushion.

  • Meals are thoughtfully curated by local chefs giving you a true Colombian culinary experience. We accommodate food allergies and special considerations for all guests.

Colombia is in a privileged location geographically resulting in an amazing variety of natural ingredients. In the mountainous region, where the Boyacá towns of Duitama and Villa De Leyva are located, the cuisine tends to be hearty and starchy. The local ingredients include a variety of grains like barley, wheat, quinoa, and corn, with corn being the king of the crowd; along with a large variety of potatoes that thrive in high altitude, yuca (cassava) and other root vegetables, that constitute the major part of the local staples. Also, we will find a large assortment of tropical fruits like passion fruit, guava, papaya, guanabana (soursop), a variety of citrus fruits, mangos among other delicious and exotic fruits.

Some of the delicious things that you should expect during our tour are, potato-based soups, arepas (lots of them), empanadas, beef and chicken stews, local cheeses, a large assortment of local vegetables, traditional sweets for quick fuel during the rides like guava paste, coconut caramel, tamarind candies and much more.
