  • Our crew treats you like family from the moment you arrive. This is not a big-box tour company. Your private trip is guided and supported by our Colombian-based team—Andres, Jeffer, and Mayra—who bring years of local riding expertise, hospitality, and care to every group.

You will be accompanied each day by a follow car and an experienced guide on the bike. They handle logistics, safety, hydration, mechanical needs, and all the tiny details that make the experience feel effortless and personal.

While our team is not made up of native English speakers, they comfortably manage the English–Spanish mix and communicate everything you need throughout the trip.

We encourage guests to brush up on a few basic Spanish phrases, as most locals you’ll meet do not speak English. You do not need to know Spanish to book or enjoy a private tour, but being prepared to navigate a bilingual environment will only enrich your experience.

  • For most travelers, Colombia does not require a visa for short visits. Visitors from the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, and most European countries can enter with a valid passport and receive a 90-day tourist permit upon arrival.

  • A limited supply of rental bikes is available for guests who prefer not to travel with their own. However, the majority of our riders choose to bring their personal bikes to ensure the best fit and familiarity on the terrain.

If you're interested in renting, please reach out in advance to check availability and discuss options. We’ll do our best to accommodate your needs and make sure you have the right setup for your adventure.

    Bike:

A gravel or cyclocross bike with disc brakes and tubeless tires is strongly recommended. The mix of rough gravel, cobblestones, and old paved roads makes this the best option for comfort and efficiency. Hardtail mountain bikes are also welcome, and some past guests have appreciated the extra suspension on rougher sections.

    Tires:

We recommend 40-50mm+ tubeless tires with fresh sealant before departure. Colombia’s diverse terrain—ranging from loose gravel to centuries-old cobblestones—demands high-volume tires for a smoother ride. Here are a few top choices:

    • Specialized Pathfinder Pro (fast-rolling with great grip)

    • Maxxis Rambler (versatile for mixed terrain)

    • Schwalbe G-One Allround (smooth and efficient on variable surfaces)

    • Panaracer Gravelking SK (reliable and well-cushioned for rough roads)

    Gearing:

Our routes are mountainous and challenging, and you’ll want at least a 1:1 gear ratio—something most modern gravel bikes come with. If your bike has an older or larger gearing setup, consider upgrading to a cassette with a wider range to make the climbs more manageable.

    Bike Maintenance:

All riders must arrive with a properly tuned and well-maintained bike. We highly recommend a professional tune-up before your trip, focusing on:

    • Fresh tires with new sealant

    • Brake pads in good condition & properly bled brakes

    • Smooth, well-maintained drivetrain

Bringing a well-prepped bike ensures you can fully enjoy the adventure without unnecessary mechanical issues along the way.

  • At La Cicla, food is an essential part of the experience. Menus are crafted by a local nutritionist to provide healthy, energizing meals with an authentic Colombian touch. Thoughtfully curated by local chefs and restaurants, every meal showcases the flavors and ingredients that make Colombian cuisine so unique.

All meals are fully covered throughout your trip, and we accommodate all dietary needs, including food allergies, vegetarian, vegan, and other nutritional preferences, ensuring every guest is well taken care of.

Colombia’s diverse geography produces an incredible variety of fresh ingredients. In Boyacá, where we’ll be riding through Duitama and Villa de Leyva, the cuisine is hearty and nourishing—perfect for cyclists. Expect to enjoy:

    • Grains & Roots: Barley, wheat, quinoa, corn, yuca, and Colombia’s famous high-altitude potatoes

    • Fresh Tropical Fruits: Passion fruit, guava, papaya, soursop, citrus, and mango

    • Proteins: Beef, chicken, fish, eggs, and locally made cheeses

    • Local Specialties: Potato-based soups, arepas (lots of them!), empanadas, and traditional stews

    • Traditional Sweets: Guava paste, coconut caramel, tamarind candies, and other quick-fuel treats for the rides

Every meal is designed to fuel your adventure while giving you a true taste of Colombia. Whether you're a meat-eater, vegetarian, or have specific dietary needs, our team ensures that everyone enjoys delicious, well-balanced meals throughout the trip.

  • How fit do we need to be to book a private tour?
Colombia is naturally a challenging place for cyclists, but a private tour means everything is custom. We design routes around your fitness, build in A and B options fully supported with a guide and a follow vehicle so you can ride at your level and enjoy every day. If your group has mixed abilities, we plan for that too.

    Can you help with flights?
You book your flights, we help with airport transfers and timing recommendations so arrivals and departures are smooth.

Is it safe to ride in Colombia?
Yes. You will be supported by a follow car every day, with guides who know these roads extremely well. We operate in well-traveled cycling regions that are considered safe, where you’ll see far more local riders than tourists—which is part of the appeal. Our job is to make the experience feel relaxed, smooth, and safe from start to finish.

    Do you offer non-rider activities?
Yes. Partners and friends are welcome. We can build in hikes, cultural visits, cafes, and slower paced days that everyone enjoys.

  • At La Cicla, the experience goes beyond the ride. While cycling is at the heart of our tours, we place equal emphasis on cultural connection and exploration.

Throughout the trip, you’ll have opportunities to immerse yourself in Colombia’s rich traditions and landscapes with activities like:

    • Visiting nearby towns to experience colonial charm and vibrant local culture

    • Cultural experiences such as artisan workshops, coffee tastings, and historical sites

Many of these activities are optional, so you can choose to participate at your own pace. Whether you’re up for an extra adventure or prefer to relax and recharge, our itineraries are designed to offer flexibility and balance—ensuring you get the most out of your time in Colombia.

  • Our tours range from moderate to challenging, but rest assured—we’ll work with you to find a pace that matches your comfort level. With our expert support team alongside you, you’ll be fully supported every pedal stroke of the way.

    What to Expect:

    • Pre-trip communication: Routes are shared in advance via GPX files and reviewed in pre-trip calls.

    • Shuttle options: On longer or more demanding days, we offer shuttle support for those who prefer a shorter ride.

We tailor the experience to your ability while encouraging riders to come prepared and ready for adventure.

Riding in Colombia is breathtaking but demanding—train beforehand and come prepared for adventure. A GPS head unit is recommended, with routes preloaded before the trip.

  • Is Colombia safe for tourists?

Yes! Colombia has made significant strides in safety and security over the years, and most areas are now considered safe for tourists. Our tours take place in a very calm and safe region, traveling through rural areas with no known issues. We carefully select our routes and accommodations to ensure a smooth and safe experience.

What safety measures do you take during cycling activities?

Your safety is our top priority. We take multiple precautions, including:

    • Experienced guides who know the terrain and local conditions

    • Well-maintained support vehicles for assistance when needed

    • Emergency planning with local contacts in case of unforeseen situations

Do I need to purchase travel insurance?

Travel insurance is highly recommended but not required. Your policy should cover:

    • Medical emergencies

    • Trip cancellations and delays

    • Lost or damaged equipment

Are any vaccines required before visiting Colombia?

No vaccines are required, but we recommend checking the CDC’s latest travel health guidelines for up-to-date recommendations.

Your safety and well-being are our priority, and we’re here to answer any additional questions!
